First Day = Success

We awoke to a beautiful sunny day. There was a mixture of sleep durning the night. It is noisy out on the streets and the roosters were crowing before we even went to bed. We were all up bright and early and ready to start way before our scheduled time. A early view from the roof at 6:00 am provided patients already sittting on our benches waiting to be seen when our clinic was to open at 8:30.

We were greeted by our favoite Haitian nurses Clotidle and Marie Clum who took vitals and translated. Jennifer headed to the pharmancy. Chris, Kevin and Jack headed to their spots and were kept busy all day with many many patients. Lab was slow in the morning and Kate anxously waited for pee pee to dip. Linda and Melinda were running crazy all over passing our goods, checking in patients, teaching Yoga and playing ball. Melinda went to all of the classes with Alex the Head Master at the school and taught hand washing and the proper way to brush their teeth. She then did classes with the patients waiting in line. Melinda made awsome posters for her classes which are laminated and can be used with future teams.

One of our first patients was a 4 year old who was burned last night on his right leg with hot beans. He was such a trouper as Chris tended to his burns. He will probably be a frequent visitor for dressing changes. We ask for prayers as he is sure to struggel in these conditions in fighting infections with this type of a wound.

We end the day basically exhausted and would just love to go to bed but it is only 7:00. The euchre cards were brought out and the heated discussion of pop vs soda.

Our day included many beautiful healthy babies. Every child in the family received a rice packet meal from Kids Against Hunger. This is a wonderful program arranged by Colleen Monfils and Three Angels received many boxes of rice packages and bars to hand out. Flip flops were a big hit for all the patients. It was great to fit the children with their correct size of shoes expecially when they arrived were wearing shoes many sizes to big.

Chris did solved the earthquake mystery. He had a small child to examine and the mom complained that one of his testicles was missing since the earthquake......upon examination no problem they were both present.

Dinner was traditional Haitian beans & rice with Tomat sauce. This is everyones favorite meal so far. Haitians eat this meal EVERY single day!

Congratulations to Livy-Lu Lindas grandaughter on her new part in the play Annie! Our sweet little orphan Kate. Grammy will be there.

What a wonderful team as we are getting to know each other and having lots of fun serving together. Tomorrow is another day and we look forward to the unexpected adventure. Surprise! Everyone is still up and the mature ladies had assistance from one of the youngsters to blog.

Rocking at Port Au Prince Fellowship

Our morning started on the roof with actually a chilly breeze. We were off to Port Au Prince Fellowship to get our bounce on. We were blessed with Troy Livsay giving the message. We were reminded to leave our worries to God and he will take care of them.

We had wonderful team work in the afternoon unpacking all of our bags. We packaged up medications, our goodie bags and planned out the week. Thank you to Linda's bible study team who sewed many goodie bags. Melinda brought many items for our bags such as shampoo, soap and tooth paste. We had a special visitor Aliston who help count out meds and taught some creole.

Devotion was lead by Linda and we spoke about stepping out of the boat in many parts of our lives. Tomorrow we have plans to use one of the Proclaimers which is an audio bible in creole while our patients are waiting to be see. Melinda will be teaching classes on handwashing and brushing your teeth and handing out the great items that we have received. Jennifer's pharmacy is ready for business. Kate has been trained to dip her urine and run her lab tests, Kevin and Chris are ready to see patients, Linda our gopher will be assisting the providers and helping with classes. Deb will be helping with nursing duties and where needed. Sound like a plan? Nothing goes as planned in Haiti.......We will keep you posted.

Once again the old ladies are awake blogging and the younsters are in bed. Whats up with that?

We have arrived! What a wonderful trip. We all converged in Miami in one piece and on time. Kevin and Kate arrived safely from California, Jennifer, Melinda & Deb from Michigan, Chris from Middleville & Linda wintering in Florida.

Once arriving in Haiti the airport was chaos. Pierrer who was described as a tall and lankey man just appeared and helped us with our luggage. We were greated by Jack & Big at the gate. We loaded up 10 army bags, 1 large suitcase, 4 tubs, 7 personal bags and 7 carry ons. Michel was in the parking lot picking up Jared & Kelly so I received a big hug from him. In our travels Port Au Prince seemed to be back to business. The vendors were on the streets and there was less rubble present compared to last May. The traffic was very light and we zipped right to the guest house as we bounced through the pot holes. We were greated by Marsha with a tour of The Juniper Tree guest house and served a wonderful meal.
After dinner we discussed our weeks plans starting with church in the morning. I was sad to hear that Pastor John will not be there this week. For those who have been there- How will we get our bounce on?
Everyone is VERY wiped out. My lovely assistant Linda and I are the only two up in the kitchen. Why are the young in bed???

Haiti here we come!

Hello,
My name is Deb Lamberton and this is my 7th trip to Haiti with Three Angels Childrens Relief. We are a mighty team of 7 and will meet in Miami on 2/26/11. Five of us live in different areas in Michigan and two are from California. We will have a medical clinic 5 days while we are in Haiti. We have 20 "Proclaimers" which are audio bibles which we are giving to Haitian to be able to share with their neighbors. This runs on solar, electric or by crank. Watch our web site as we keep you posted on our week.
